THE FRAGILE LANDSCAPE a personal journey – Singapore and beyond
This *collection of 91 watercolours on flora / landscape, comprises various miniature works painted on site during the 1990's, in Singapore and neighbouring countries. Whilst most are rendered in a realist style, others reflect a more painterly approach – evoking the spirit of the particular encounter.
During the 1990's, the fast-changing landscape triggered the urge to take the 'studio' out on investigative explorations. The ‘studio’ was a waistpouch with watercolours, water bottle, and a pack of ‘washi’ (japanese handmade paper) cards which resisted buckling when painted on. A lightweight folding stool and weather protection completed the equipment for the roving studio.
As with the zoom lens of a camera –
When viewing the miniatures, the viewer's eye may be drawn away into the distant horizon or – focused on the details of closer encounters.
* collection is made up of:
6 cm x 9 cm 59 works
15 cm x 10 cm 14 works
15 cm x 20 cm 18 works
